- How can I check a psychologist’s qualifications?
You can check a psychologist’s professional status, interests and qualifications by using the links on the 'Our Psychologists' page.
- What type of questions should I ask the psychologist?
It helps the psychologist focus their work if they have a clear issue or question to explore. Our reports, training and consultation records identify the question or issue you are interested in, and our advice and recommendations are structured around it. Some people already have specific areas that they would like to discuss, while others develop ideas during consultation with their psychologist. Each person will have their own specific needs, but some general examples include:
- How can my child develop their academic skills?
- What are my child's strengths and areas to develop as a learner?
- How does my child learn best?
- How can my child develop their motivation?
- Is my child dyslexic?
- Is my child dyscalculic?
- Is my child anxious? How can we manage this?
- How can I manage and support a child with a diagnosis of ....?
- Why has my child's behaviour changed? What are their reasons for behaving this way?
- How can I help my child improve and develop their behaviour choices?
- Is my child unhappy? If so, what can I do to help them?
- Why are this class finding it difficult to learn?
- Can I improve the academic results in my school?
- Can I improve the incidence of good behaviour in my school?
- Can I develop the standard of teaching in my school?
- I didn't manage to confirm a service within two working days – can I still book it?
Just drop us a line and we’ll check for you. If the time and date is still available, we’ll send you an updated invoice. If not, we’ll get in touch with you and discuss some alternative times and dates.
- Do EdPsychs contribute psychological advice to the statutory process
Yes. Local authorities can purchase a psychologist's time to put together the psychological advice to inform the statutory process. Please contact us to discuss your requirements and receive an individualised quote.
- What if I need to re-arrange or cancel an appointment?
For individual work with a child
We’d be grateful if you could provide at least 2 working days notice prior to the confirmed appointment. This gives your psychologist time to reschedule their work, and offer your time to another client. We can then reschedule a time for you if one is available, or provide you with a full refund.
For work with a high preparation time (e.g. training, group work, whole class work or research)
We will always mark this work ‘High Preparation’ on your initial invoice to notify you of its status.
We will attempt to reschedule if the psychologist has time available.
Alternatively we can provide a 50% refund if we receive up to two working days notice of cancellation.
Unfortunately we cannot provide a refund for cancellations received less than 2 working days prior to an appointment, or for missed appointments.
- Do EdPsychs work with adults?
Yes. We offer a range of educational services for adults. Options include:
- English and maths assessments.
- Cognitive assessments which look for strengths and areas to develop in areas of your current profile of skills
- Support to develop study skills.
- Support to manage test anxiety
- Psychological assessment and report for applications for Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA). This is often requested by university students who have a diagnosis of dyslexia or seek an assessment to investigate the possibility that they may be dyslexic. We always advise that you explore your options in this area. This includes reading through the guidelines which you can find here.
- Do EdPsychs provide a consultation service?
Yes, we provide two types of consultation service.
- The first is an email consultation service. You can send an enquiry using the contact us page, outline your issue and state that you would like an email consultation response. If we feel this is an issue for an educational psychologist, you'll receive a payment request (currently £45.00 per e-mail). Once you've paid this, a Chartered educational psychologist will provide an email answer to your enquiry, usually by the end of the following working day. If we cannot answer your enquiry we will do our best to put you in touch with someone who can.
- We also provide a telephone consultation service. You can use the contact us page, outline your issue and state that you would like a telephone consultation response. Again, if we feel that this is an issue for an educational psychologist, you'll receive a payment request. Once you've paid this, a Chartered educational psychologist will give you a call (usually within two working days) and complete the consultation. This particular service operates on weekdays during business hours, which for us is 9am - 9.00pm UK time. We charge £90.00 per telephone consultation, for a consultation lasting up to sixty minutes. Additional consultation time can be purchased on a pro-rata basis.
- Given the potential timescales, neither consultation service should be used for emergency cases.
- Do EdPsychs keep copies of case notes, training materials, support materials or reports?
EdPsychs keep information about the initial contacts, requests and the overall management of our services (including suggestions and feedback).
Your attached psychologist or psychologists will keep all other relevant information including case notes, training materials, research data and reports and you should contact them directly if you would like copies of these.
Please note that your attached psychologist or psychologists will keep this information for two years after your last contact with them

- What does an educational assessment involve?
- A free initial telephone consultation with a chartered psychologist. The psychologist will discuss your needs and offer you the assessment type they feel is most appropriate for your requirements.
- If you choose to book an appointment with a psychologist, you'll meet at the agreed time and place. You choose the location and it could be your home, a school or workplace.
- When you meet, your psychologist will show you their Health Professions Council Registration card as identification. This is a small white card, with the HPC logo and a foil inlay. It contains the psychologist's name and confirms they are a registered Educational Psychologist. The psychologist will explain the issue of confidentiality with respect to your personal information. Your psychologist may also ask you for some additional information to further support the assessment process.
- The aim of the assessment is to gather as much accurate and useful information as possible. As such, your psychologist will endeavor to develop a relaxed, friendly and professional working environment, where the client can demonstrate their current skills and abilities.
- The psychologist may use a range of different assessments and resources to establish a thorough understanding of the key issues.
- At the end of the assessment, the client will have the opportunity to discuss the full assessment process and ask any questions that they might have.
- The psychologist will analyse the information and present their findings and recommendations within a written report. You will receive this report within two weeks of the assessment, with the average report time being 3 -5 days from the initial assessment date.
- You will have the opportunity to access a free 15 minute follow up telephone consultation once you have received your report to discuss any points that you choose.
- You can book an email or telephone consultation in the future through the website if you would like to discuss any further points or developments.
